Rules & Regulations

The Rules & Regulations of MarLab have been officially established by the Rector’s Act No 5839 /10-8-2015 (FEK 1668).

Article 1 – Areas of Research, Education and Training

MarLab serves the educational and research needs in the subject of marketing and particularly in consumer behavior, services marketing (tourism, culture, health, sports, entertainment, banking, etc.), brand management, international and export marketing, strategic marketing, marketing research – neuromarketing, internal marketing, social marketing, corporate social responsibility, relationship marketing, advertising, public relations, pricing, distribution channels, design and new product development, digital – online marketing, nonprofit marketing, industrial marketing and sales.


Articles 2 & 3 – Mission & Objectives

MarLab‘s objectives are:

  • To support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research needs of the Department of Business Administration and other departments at the University of Macedonia in marketing related topics.
  • To promote modern marketing and its importance to the Greek companies and organizations in order to enhance their extroversion and sustainable development.
  • To develop and conduct research activities on marketing and to create marketing databases.
  • To organize scientific meetings, conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences and other scientific events.
  • To publish in highly recognized international journals and invite Greek and foreign internationally recognized academics in the field of marketing to the University of Macedonia.
  • To collaborate with other universities, academic institutions, laboratories and research centers domestically and abroad with common research interests and goals.
  • To work with public sector bodies, local authorities, scientific and social organizations, business organizations and international bodies or organizations in the field of marketing in order to submit research proposals to funding organizations and develop alternative methods in facing marketing and business problems.
  • To offer services to individuals and any form of organization/business in order to promote extroversion and competitiveness of Greek businesses.
  • To develop and encourage interdisciplinary research in solving marketing problems.
  • To collaborate with national and international bodies and organizations for the wider dissemination of modern marketing, its principles and practices.
  • To support educational programs and counseling services in marketing.
  • To continuously be updated on developments in the field of marketing.
  • To train business personnel and executives in basic marketing principles, in modern approaches and how to use new technologies for marketing purposes.

Article 4 – Personnel

MarLab is staffed by teaching, research and other personnel serving in the Department of Business Administration, University of Macedonia and generally in the Departments of the University of Macedonia. Its personnel are composed of members of the Teaching and Research Faculty (DEP), whose scientific interests lie within the teaching, research and scientific areas of MarLabMarLab is stuffed by members of the Laboratory Teaching Personnel (E.DI.P) and the Special Technical Laboratory Staff (Technical Staff) and by members of other scientific and administrative staff.


Article 5 – Membership Types

1. Full Research Members

Full Research Members can be faculty members at the Department of Business Administration of the University of Macedonia specialized in Marketing

Benefits:

Full Research Members can:

  • Have free access and use of all resources and spaces of MarLab (e.g., technological equipment, books, articles, software).
  • Have priority over all other members in accessing and using all resources and spaces of MarLab.
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with MarLab members and participate in all of MarLab‘s activities to accomplish its goals (e.g., research, training, counseling, and teaching activities, conferences, and workshops).
  • Submit research proposals to national and international organizations and foundations via MarLab.
  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. The seminar material will have MarLab‘s logo and its price will be determined in coordination with MarLab‘s Director. Each member is entitled to 70 % of the selling price of the seminar material.
  • Be included in the institutional registrations of MarLab (e.g. institutional conference registrations) in national and international scientific associations and ensure all the related rights. If the number of members concerned is higher than the places available or the available material, then, a draw will take place.
  • Have priority to the privileges of MarLab‘s institutional registrations in relation to all other membership categories.
  • Be funded in their research activities depending  on their participation in the activities and their contribution in achieving the objectives of MarLab.
  • Obtain the Membership Card indicating the membership type and its duration.
  • Present his/her Curriculum Vitae with his/her educational and research activities on MarLab‘s.

Obligations:

Full Research Members are obliged:

  • To comply with MarLab‘s Regulations and Code of Ethics.
  • To participate and actively support the activities of MarLab.
  • To submit and update regularly their Curriculum Vitae and all their research activities on MarLab‘s website.
  • To communicate and promote their participation in MarLab and acknowledge it in Greek or in English in all of their communications (e.g., in the signature in their paper and/or electronic correspondence).
  • In case of being financially supported by MarLab (e.g. either part of their research or a conference registration is financed) they must

– Mention MarLab both in their presentations and publications in conference proceedings or in any special issue of the conference or journal. Specifically, they need to state: “This research is financially supported by the Marketing Laboratory MarLab of the University of Macedonia” for Greek presentations/publications and “The present research is financially supported by the Marketing Laboratory MarLab of the University of Macedonia, Greece”.

– To present the logo of MarLab in all of the slides of their presentations.

2. Researchers

Researchers are Ph.D. candidates of the Department of Business Administration at the University of Macedonia whose dissertation topic is on Marketing and their supervisor is a Marketing faculty member of the department.

Benefits:

Researchers can:

  • Have free access and use of all resources and spaces of MarLab (e.g., technological equipment, books, articles, software).
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with MarLab members and participate in all of MarLab‘s activities to accomplish its goals (e.g., research, training, counseling, and teaching activities, conference, and workshops).
  • Submit research proposals to national and international organizations and foundation via MarLab.
  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. The seminar material will have MarLab‘s logo and its price will be determined in coordination with MarLab‘s Director. Each member is entitled to 70 % of the selling price of the seminar material.
  • Be included in the institutional registrations of MarLab(e.g. institutional conference registrations) in national and international scientific associations and ensure all the related rights. 3. Full Associate Members

Full Associate Members can be faculty members of the Department of Business Administration who are specialized in disciplines such as management, international business, operations management, economics and others.

Full Associate Members can:

  • Have free access and use of all resources and spaces of MarLab (e.g., technological equipment, books, articles, software).
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with MarLab members and participate in all of MarLab‘s activities to accomplish its goals (e.g., research, training, counseling, and teaching activities, conference, and workshops).
  • Submit research proposals to national and international organizations and foundation via MarLab.
  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. 4. Full Associate Researchers

Full Associate Researchers could be Ph.D. candidates of the Department of Business Administration whose supervisor is a faculty member of the department and their dissertation is focused on disciplines such as management, international business, operations management, economics and others.

Benefits:

Full Associate Members can:

  • Have free access and use of all resources and spaces of MarLab (e.g., technological equipment, books, articles, software).
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with MarLab members and participate in all of MarLab‘s activities to accomplish its goals (e.g., research, training, counseling, and teaching activities, conference, and workshops).
  • Submit research proposals to national and international organizations and foundation via MarLab.
  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. 5. Associate Members

Associate Members could be faculty members of other departments of the University of Macedonia or other Greek or foreign universities whose specialization is on Marketing or other disciplines. Associate Members should collaborate either with the Director of MarLab or other MarLab members such as Full Research Members, Researchers, Associate Research Members, and Associate Researchers.

Benefits:

  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. The seminar material will have MarLab‘s logo and its price will be determined in coordination with MarLab‘s Director. Each member is entitled to 70 % of the selling price of the seminar material.

Obligations:

Full Associate Members are obliged:

  • To comply with MarLab‘s Regulations and Code of Ethics.

6. Associate Researchers

Associate Researchers could be Ph.D. candidates of other departments of the University of Macedonia or other Greek or foreign universities whose specialization is on Marketing or other disciplines. Associate Researchers should collaborate either with the Director of MarLabor other MarLab members such as Full Research Members, Researchers, Associate Research Members, and Associate Researchers.

Benefits:

Full Associate Researchers can:

  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. The seminar material will have MarLab‘s logo and its price will be determined in coordination with MarLab‘s Director. Each member is entitled to 70 % of the selling price of the seminar material.

Obligations:

Full Associate Researchers are obliged:

7. Visiting Research Associates

Visiting Research Associates could be faculty members of other educational institutions, universities and research centers from Greece or abroad specialized in Marketing and other related management disciplines.

Visiting Research Associates are affiliated with MarLab for one year or less. This is an ideal fit for scholars who are on sabbatical and come from another academic institution. Visiting Research Associates need to apply at least six months before their intended visit to the University of Macedonia. They need to pay an application fee of 50 Euro per semester.

Benefits:

Visiting Research Associates can:

  • Dine at the faculty dining room of the University of Macedonia by paying the same special price as the faculty members of the university.
  • Have free access to the university’s facilities (e.g., computer labs, library and gym). For the use of any specific technological device a permit issued by the Director of MarLab is needed.
  • Prepare seminar material that will be available in a pay per download format via the website of MarLab. The seminar material will have MarLab‘s logo and its price will be determined in coordination with MarLab‘s Director. Each member is entitled to 70 % of the selling price of the seminar material.

Obligations:

Visiting Research Associates are obliged:

  • To comply with MarLab‘s objectives are: Regulations and Code of Ethics.

8. Volunteers

Volunteers can be undergraduate students or graduate students of the Department of Business Administration of the University of Macedonia who would like to assist in the activities of MarLab (e.g. research, conferences, and workshops) in an effort to learn and gain practical experience. All Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation at the end of the academic year and during the yearly celebration event of MarLab.

9. Honorary Members

Honorary Members can be well known academics or practitioners specialized in Marketing from Greece or abroad or former members of MarLab who contributed significantly to the development and accomplishment of the goals of MarLabHonorary Members are selected and invited by the Director of MarLab.


Article 6 – Membership Application & Cancellation

To apply for membership at MarLab, the following steps need to be taken:

  • To fill out and submit the electronic Application Form
  • To attach a brief curriculum vitae in word file
  • To attach an ID type photo
  • To send a detailed CV in pdf file to the email marlab@uom.edu.gr
  • The deposit 50 Euro for a six-month affiliation or 100 Euro for a one-year affiliation with MarLab(applies only to Visiting Research Associates)

The application is accepted or not by the Director of MarLab within 30 days. In case of non-acceptance of the application, a letter explaining the reasons for denying the application will be sent to the applicant within 30 days.

A membership is revoked when:

  • A member does not adhere to MarLab‘s Code of Ethics
  • A member does no actively participate in the MarLab activities for more than one year
  • A member did not return loaned equipment in time as it stated in the related form.
  • A member returned damaged or faulty equipment borrowed from MarLab and did not take care for its timely repair or replacement.
  • The Director decides it after the member is informed with a written notification explaining the reasons.
  • A member’s registration is expired.

Article 7 – Code of Ethics

All members of MarLab must adhere to its Code of Ethics.


Article 8 – Administration

MarLab is headed by a faculty member of the Department of Business Administration at the University of Macedonia and with the procedure specified in Article 28 par. 22 of l. 2083/1992 as supplemented by paragraph 5 of article 12 of l. 3685/2008.

  1. The director’s responsibilities of MarLab are specified on article 7 of law 1268/1982, and include among others the coordination of the teaching (undergraduate and graduate) and research activities of the Lab, the submission of the annual operational program of the Lab to the General Assembly of the department and its supervision of application, the hiring of the Lab’s personnel, the financial management, the distribution of the Lab’s spaces, the submission of the annual report, and the singing of all documents related to the Lab.

Article 9 – Advising Committee

  1. MarLab is supported by an Advising Committee which is formed by its Director and act as a consulting body to support the activities and achieving the objectives of the Lab. The Committee consists of MarLab‘s Director, top business managers, representatives of research centers and institutions, representatives of marketing associations and academies, chambers’ representatives and academics collaborating with the Lab. The Advising Committee will contribute to seeking and ensuring cooperation with various entities, to setting research priorities and to the development of the fundraising and other activities of the Lab.
  2. The Director of MarLab is a permanent member and chairs the Advising Committee while he/she is responsible for its composition (inviting members) and operation (organize meetings). The minimum number of member in the Committee is 5 while the maximum number is 15 and the total number of members should always be an odd number (5, 7, 9, 11, 13 ή 15 members). The members of the Advising Committee participate on a volunteer base and there is no payment. The term of office of the Advising Committee members is three years. After this period, their membership is reviewed or paused based on the Director’s decision.
  3. The Director of MarLab prepares and submits the agenda of the Advising Committee’s meetings. In case of voting, the majority of the members present at the meeting is used while in case of a tie the vote of the Director counts. The Advising Committee meets at least three times a year and the agenda of each meeting shall be sent to members at least one week before the date specified. Meetings may be held for some members and by using videoconferencing while meeting minutes are kept.

Article 10 – Facilities & Operation

  1. MarLab is located on facility granted by the University of Macedonia to carrying out its work and particularly for the installation of instruments and other equipment necessary for conducting of laboratory exercises/experiments and research programs. The Lab operates during working days and hours, according to the internal regulation of the University of Macedonia. At the site, there is a tag with the name of the Lab. MarLab may operate in annex set up outside the University premises.
  2. The Director of MarLab is informed before carrying out any work in the Lab for any research project or other project and determines the priority to the use of equipment and spaces, where there is no previous decision.
  3. The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the laboratory, the use of equipment and other material belonging to MarLab, the use of its premises by various groups (e.g., staff, students, and visitors) and the protection of equipment and laboratory facilities from damage.
  4. The use of the equipment of MarLab is only allowed to its staff and members who are qualified and training and authorization from its Director. Mobile equipment and utensils, which are lend for conducting research, are returned to their initial condition after being used. Documents for lend and returned equipment indicating the lending period and details of the borrowers and should have been signed by Director of the Lab. In case of return of technological equipment which is damaged during use, the member of Lab who borrowed the equipment must bear the cost of repair or replacement within a month from the date of detection of the problem.
  5. MarLab‘s Director may delegate to a member of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff to support the Lab.
  6. Where possible with the current provisions, the recruitment of scientists in the fields of teaching and research activities of the Lab is based on the decision of its Director.

Article 11 – Revenues

MarLab is self-financed and not supported by the university or the Ministry of Education. Its funding may come from:

  1. The execution of research projects carried out for its own account or a third party.
  2. The provision of research and other scientific products/services.
  3. The provision of advisory and any other services in accordance with Article 3, paragraph3 of PD 159/1984.
  4. The special contributions and grants from international organizations, public or private companies and entities or individuals.
  5. The legacies, donations and bequests that are offered to the University of Macedonia for the aims of the Lab.
  6. Conferences, meeting, symposia and seminars, summer schools (Summer Schools).
  7. The provision of distance learning courses in Greek and/or English via MarLab‘s website and the withholding of 30% of their revenue from selling the access and use of its material.
  8. Members’ registration (e.g., Visiting Research Associates)
  9. Sponsorships
  10. The withholding of 20% of projects and services offered by MarLab‘s members for the implementation of which the resources and premises of the Lab are used or the Lab appears as a partner.
  11. All other legitimate sources.

Article 12 – Documents– Archiving

For the needs of MarLab the following documents and records are kept: book assets, file of financial information for each year, catalog of scientific books, journals and equipment, research programs archive, book personnel changes and incoming and outgoing documents’ protocol. By decision of the director may be held every other book or information prescribed by special provisions or are deemed necessary.
